Who doesn’t want to be like Mike? With the endorsements, accolades, and championship rings, it’s no wonder that NBA 2K’s latest installment focused on the storied legacy of Air Jordan.
We were tasked with creating a Facebook application that highlighted the many new features of the latest iteration in the NBA 2K franchise, NBA 2K11, and generating buzz for MJ’s return to virtual hard-court dominance.
We had to look past the trailers, advertorials, and 30-second spots to design a platform that spoke to the greatness of Michael Jordan and the excellence of the NBA 2K franchise. The application boasted a media-rich mosaic of photos, videos, and feature highlights that allows users to preview the game and re-familiarize themselves with the 14-time NBA All-Star. Users can explore the mosaic by rolling over the individual tiles or by selecting from a list of 3 predefined content filters.
One of the game’s most impressive features was the Jordan Challenge, which lets players relive 10 of Jordan’s most defining moments. From his first Finals’ appearance to the memorable Father’s Day game, users now have the chance to not only be like Mike, but also be Mike. To draw attention to this feature, we loaded this section with actual in-game re-enactments. Furthermore, users can vote and share their favorite Jordan moment on Facebook.
If that wasn’t enough, we had a Features section that provided images and detailed descriptions of the latest advancements in this version of the game. Our Media section even culled all of the commercials and interviews surrounding 2K11 and presented them on an easy-to-navigate tab.
